Abstract:

Danio rerio is one of the most beautiful ornamental fish living in fresh water and tropical water having a lot of fans in our country. This study aimed at investigating the effect of flaked diet with spirulina microalga feeding on growth and survival rates of Danio rerio in Mahshahr, south of Iran in 2014.  Three hundred and sixty zebra fish have been purchased and were randomly distributed among 12 aquariums, which the first group or control have been received commercial concentrated food (Energy co.), the 2nd group were fed basal diet enriched with 4% Spirulina. The 3rd group received enriched food with 12% of the same supplement diet and and finally, the 4th group was designed for 25% of Spirulina. The highest levels of condition factor and specific growth ratio were calculated for 4.394± 0.35 and 0.92 ±0.004, respectively. In addition, the lowest levels of daily feeding consumption and feed conversion ratio of 0. 35 ±0.035 and 0.037±0.01 were respectively obtained. In general, the inclusion of spirulina powder in feeding level of this fish would lead to gaining weight. Furthermore, the increase of spirulina microalga powder would affect the feed conversion ratio in its feeding level within a raising period of 60 days. Since there is no significant difference between 12 and 25% of the basal diet, it is concluded that the best feeding level is the basal diet enriched with4% spirulina.

Antioxidant and immune gene expression in zebra fish (Danio rerio)

Iodine is the main ingredient produced by the thyroid hormone, which playa a central role in the metabolism and the immune system. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of feeding Artemia fransiscana enriched with potassium iodide on antioxidant and immune gene expression in zebra fish (Danio rerio). Zebra larvae with an average weight of 2±0.01 mg were randomly distributed into 4 trea...

Safety evaluation of chloramine –T on ornamental zebra fish (Danio rerio) using LC50 calculation and organ pathology

The need of aquarists for proper and safe disinfection of fish with Chloramine-T (CL-T) necessitates toxico/pathologic examinations.   This study assays toxicity level of CL-T and histopathologic changes of gills, liver, kidney and brain of treated zebrafish (Danio rerio). Groups of 10 Zebrafish were treated with 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, 30, 50,100 and 200 mg/L of CL– T. Mortality was recorded a...

Effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the acute toxicity of Ag nanoparticles in zebra fish (Danio rerio)

The potential entry of nanomaterials into the water ecosystems increased following their increasing use. In addition to the direct effects of nanomaterials on aquatic organisms, they also affect the toxicity of other pollutants on aquatic organisms. This study assessed the presence of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO2) in water on acute toxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on zebra fish...

Determining the lethal concentration of formalin to zebra fish (Danio rerio)

Formalin is an effective solution for surface and equipment disinfection and also for several aquaculture industry challenge. Since various aquatics have different sensitivity to this substance, determination of a precise concentration for cultured fish is important. Because of diversity in aquarium fish species, this topic more highlights. In this study, the method of The Organisation for Econ...
